Job overview

An exciting opportunity to work as a Locum Consultant Paediatric Radiology post is available in the Department of Radiology. The appointee will work within the Radiology Department of Birmingham Children’s Hospital joining an existing establishment of 15 Substantive Consultant Paediatric Radiologists. This is a full-time fixed term 12 month 9 - PA post.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should be trained in all aspects of Diagnostic Paediatric Radiology and will take part in the general Paediatric Radiology on-call rota. The existing consultants have all developed sub-specialty interests, so if the successful applicant has an interest within Paediatric Radiology, then the department would try to support this. The successful applicant would be expected to take a share in the multi-disciplinary meetings with existing Consultant Radiologists. The nature of Paediatric Radiology is such that the successful candidate will need broad experience and will use many modalities in undertaking their roles. Their job plans will reflect this but will also try to accommodate specialist interests, mindful of the existing needs within the department. The successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The new Consultant Contract comprises 9 Programmed Activities (PAs) (equivalent to 36 hours), of which 7.5 PAs are for direct clinical care (DCC) and a baseline minimum 1.5 are for supporting activities (SPA). Job Plans are reviewed annually at the time of Consultant appraisal which occurs between April and October. The on-call commitment is 1 in 13.

The successful post holder will be allocated direct clinical care sessions in all imaging modalities available in the department. All the consultants work flexibly to cover the imaging investigations and consultations that take place within the department. The following provisional timetable will form the basis for discussion with the successful applicants. Not all of the DCC sessions will involve formal imaging lists.
