Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon with an interest in Rhinology

An opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant ENT Surgeon with an interest in Rhinology based at University Hospital Monklands with duties across NHS Lanarkshire. The post holder will participate in the on call rota,

The Department is well-recognised for research, education and leadership roles in national organisations and has a reputation for its friendly team. We encourage participation in research, education and leadership roles. Current positions held by the consultant team include, Undergraduate Lead for University of Glasgow, President of the British Society of Otology and National Specialty Delivery Group Lead for ENT, NHS Scotland and Committee member of the British Society of Facial Plastic Surgery. The Consultants are primary organisers of multiple Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow courses in temporal bone dissection, endoscopic ear surgery, head and neck anatomy and ENT emergency courses. We are also faculty to many national and international courses and on the Editorial Board of Clinical Otolaryngology. Past roles held by consultant members include President of the British Society of Facial Plastics and Honorary Secretary of ENT UK.

The successful applicant will join an existing team of 9 consultants, 2 Specialty Doctors, 4 STs on the West of Scotland Training Scheme, 2 FY2s, 1 Core Trainee and 2 CDFs.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time, up to 2 EPAs may be available to undertake additional outpatient and/or procedure sessions or management activity.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.

  • Fluent in medical English and evidence of ability to communicate in stressful situations.

Desirable

  • Preference to work in a District General Hospital.

  • Previous involvement in the delivery of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching.
