We are seeking a full-time locum consultant in ophthalmology. You will join an established and cohesive team and will work closely with our colleagues in hospital and community optometry, providing patient-centred safe and clinically effective care. The role of particular relevance for this post is high-volume cataract surgery, with clear evidence of a proven track record. The main base will be Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline, although travel to other hospitals in Fife will be required.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training to Non-UK Applicants must demonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills and experience required for practising as an eligible specialist in the UK.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

  • Proven experience of clinical audit.

  • Proven use of audit as a tool to manage change in clinical practice.

Teaching

  • Evidence of formal or informal teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students and other clinical staff.

  • Evidence of formal training in teaching.

Management

Essential

  • Awareness of management issues in the NHS.

  • Experience in initiating change.
  • Management training/Medical Leadership Qualification.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.

  • Evidence of appropriate CPD.
  • Excellent surgical competence and skills in modern cataract surgery, with evidence of experience of high volume cataract surgery.
  • Able to run subspecialty clinics and services.

Desirable

  • Further subspecialty training in medical retina or glaucoma.
