University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Gynaecologist to join its supportive multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician with an interest in benign gynaecology, particularly pelvic pain and endometriosis, to help develop high-quality, patient-centred services and improve outcomes and experiences for women and families.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality consultant-led care for patients with benign gynaecological conditions, including pelvic pain and endometriosis.

Contribute to the assessment, treatment planning and ongoing management of patients across outpatient, inpatient and surgical pathways.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based and compassionate care

Support the development of specialist pathways and continuous improvement in access, outcomes and patient experience.

Participate in teaching, training, clinical governance, audit and quality-improvement activity.

Contribute to departmental leadership and the wider objectives of the Gynaecology service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The initial job plan will average 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week. A final job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director and reviewed after three months. The number and timing of clinics will reflect service requirements and the successful candidate’s specialist interests.

The job plan is a prospective agreement setting out the consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of professional practice, including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities, together with a clear schedule of internal and external commitments, personal objectives and the support required to deliver them. All consultant job plans are reviewed annually following team and individual job-planning meetings, and the postholder will be expected to participate. Duties may be reviewed as service requirements change; any amendments will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Assistant Clinical Director, with the approval of the Clinical Director.

On-call commitment The post will mainly provide out-of-hours gynaecology on-call cover at Royal Derby Hospital. The rota is currently 1 in 10 and attracts a 3% on-call availability supplement.

Typical shifts

• Weekday gynaecology ward day: 09:00–17:00.
• Weekday overnight on call: non-resident, 17:00–09:00.
• Weekend: 48-hour on-call commitment, including an inpatient ward round from 09:00–11:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
