An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Haematologist with a myeloma interest, to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at UHDB on a 12 month fixed term contract.
In-patient therapies are provided on a dedicated, 18 bedded, haematology ward, providing BSH level 2b care, including induction treatment and salvage therapies for AMLs and high-grade lymphomas. We have our own Acute Unit for unwell patients (CTAU) run by advanced clinical practitioners with medical supervision and shared with Oncology.
Our department currently accommodates 5 specialist Registrars from the East Midlands Deanery and 3 specialty Doctors. We have also an established teaching program for medical students from the University of Nottingham and overseas.
The appointee will have the opportunity to shape the future of the service. This is an exciting time in the evolution of haematology care at UHDB and we would be pleased to hear from any candidate wishing to consider this role and discuss ours and their vision for this.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the myeloma service at UHDB, be actively involved in service development through innovation, restructure and expansion of clinical trials and access to novel therapies.
This is a full-time post based at the Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton, but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Due to the Trust being a merged organisation there is a requirement to work across other sites.

This is a replacement post for a Consultant Haematologist to develop our service across our hospital sites therefore we would welcome candidates who would like to develop a sub-specialist interest.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
Desirable
- Additional higher medical/ scientific degree
- Have CCT or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview and entry on GMC Specialist Register by date of commencement OR Evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)
- Possession of MRCP and FRCPath
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and the requirements of clinical governance.
- Evidence of independent clinical practice
- Relevant speciality clinical knowledge
- Experienced in making clinical decisions & managing risk
Desirable
- Interest in an area of Myeloma
- Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Audit / Research experience
Essential
- Experience of and commitment to Clinical Audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
- Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
Teaching, Magagement & Audit Experience
Essential
- Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and post graduates
- Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees
- Experience of teaching clinical skills
Desirable
- Evidence of attendance on a management course for consultants
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
- Specific teaching qualification
- Attended a recognised teaching training course
