Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Haematology at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust based at the Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals (2 separate sites), joining the six other consultants in the department. The post is a 6 month Fixed Term contract with a view to extending to a 12 month role. Applicants must also be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register (UK) with a Licence to Practise (or be eligible for full and Specialist registration within six months of interview).
Malignant service for RFL are carried out at Barnet and Chase Farm hospital and caters for a population greater than 1 million. We are an outpatient based service and provide support to other specialities in regard to in-patients.
The person appointed will have broad haematology training and be capable of handling various medical problems with general and malignant haematology. The appointee must be an effective team player and will be flexible in approaching new ways of working. The post holder will join a Haematology Department that provides Malignant Haematology Services with a hub based at Barnet with day units in Finchley Memorial Hospital (remote management) and Chase Farm.
The appointee will be expected to help maintain the haematology department's reputation as a centre of excellence in service delivery, teaching and training. The appointee is also encouraged to develop a specialist interest in areas like elderly leukaemia/MDS, myeloma, CML, and lymphoma.
Core haematology service at Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals, including inpatient attending, out-of-hour on-call and delivery of outpatient services as required. The post-holder will contribute to a 1:6 Consultant ward attending rota and 1:5.8 Consultant 2nd on-call rota at weekends and 1st on call during weekdays. Liaison services with other clinical services based at the Barnet and Chase Farm sites. Other clinical work, including supporting the Haematology laboratory (diagnostic/morphology) 2WW clinic for haematological malignancies and participate in the cross-site cancer MDT, along with specialist clinics. Develop an area of special interest for clinical or academic research aligned with the department's aspirations. The post-holder will support activities within the department, including graduate and undergraduate teaching and educational supervision. Support the enrolment in clinical trials and patient reviews.
