Applications are invited for the post of Locally Employed Doctor in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
The post-holder will be delivering the clinical service of integrated sexual health clinics, though location is to be discussed with successful candidate.
The post-holder will also be expected to complete administrative duties relating to patients' care such as: dictating letters; reviewing the results of investigations and acting upon abnormal results; dealing with clinical incidents and complaints.
The post-holder is also expected to actively participate and contribute to the audit programs.
As a doctor in a teaching hospital, the post-holder is expected to contribute to the teaching, training and supervision of medical undergraduates, resident doctors and nurses in the clinic.
They are also expected to work with cognizance of the latest UK national guidelines on HIV and sexual health, Trust policies, as well as locally agreed guidelines, to attend mandatory training as required by the Trust, and participate in an annual appraisal and revalidation process as specified by the Trust policy.
Main duties of the job
This post involves working as a member of a team with medical, nursing, counselling, and administrative staff in the care of clients as follows:
*Offer and discussion of all methods of contraception explaining the advantages and disadvantages including any risk factors, to help the client reach an informed decision. Prescription of appropriate contraception, and management of any problems associated with these contraceptives.
*Sexual Health clinics. Obtaining full sexual history including obstetrics and gynaecology histories where applicable. Screening and management of sexually transmitted infections -- offering integrated (SRH and GUM) care to clients according to the national and local guidelines.
*Contribution to the teaching and ongoing education of medical students, nurses and doctors
*Assessing and counselling patients with an unwanted pregnancy and referring to appropriate agencies for subsequent care.
*Maintaining accurate medical records according to the GMC and Trust's standards. Issue of clear and accurate clinical summary for the benefit of the General Practitioner and other agencies when necessary.
*Working in Sexual Health Clinics including evenings and on Saturdays pro- rota.
*Work closely with other disciplines in the departments of HIV and Sexual Health
