An exciting opportunity has arisen for a social worker in the Stafford adult social care team, the post is working within a well-established and dynamic team.

The level 1 social worker post is ideal for a newly qualified social worker, and the successful candidate will be supported to complete their ASYE, whilst working on a protected case load.

The position is within the older persons with physical disability team which is a community-based team working with Adults over 18 years of age with a range of physical and Mental health needs. This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely with multi-disciplinary teams/agencies in addressing a range of care/support issues in the promotion of independence and improving the health and wellbeing of the population served.

Main duties of the job

You will have responsibility for your own case load and will work on a range of cases involving assessment, support planning, Mental Capacity Act assessments, appointeeships and deputyship referrals. Section 117 reviews and safeguarding enquiries as well as complex case management. There is opportunity to manage your own workload and diary, and you will be offered the opportunity to work in a hybrid way, being based between the office base in Stafford and home working.

The post holder must hold a driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle

The post holder will be expected to access Social care and health records to gather information, therefore it is important that the successful candidate is able to use a computer and have an understanding of the importance of good recording.  You will require effective communication and written skills and be willing to work as part of a team to promote best outcomes for individuals. You will be required to be self-motivated and organised in order to manage any competing demands and be provided with all relevant training and support in the role.

You will also receive the support of your team and your line manager who will provide regular supervision both on a formal and informal basis

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

If you are in your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment, you will be supported by the Trust to develop skills, knowledge and professional confidence in line with the national ASYE requirements and reflecting the PCF standards (Professional Capabilities Framework). This includes having a protected workload spanning community and Hospital/inpatient working during the first year of employment; having a personal development plan; and having dedicated allocated time for personal development and regular formal supervision by a Practice Assessor supplied by the Trust.

You will enhance and develop their practice to become an autonomous practitioner with graded exposed to work of a more complex nature.  You will be provided with the support of a Practice Assessor and will receive enhanced supervisory support from other senior colleagues including an identified experienced Social Worker, the Advanced Social Work Practitioner or Team lead.

On appointment, you will be auto-enrolled in the SWLA and aligned to the appropriate British Association of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework.  The relevant SWLA ‘stage’ (i.e. stage 1 (ASYE), 2 (Social Worker) or 3 (Advanced Social Worker) will also be agreed taking all prior Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and relevant experience into consideration. You will be required to take responsibility for their own Continuous Professional Development.

  • Experience of social work in other user groups/settings i.e. Children and Families, Learning Disability, Mental Health.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Professional Social Work qualification, DipSW, CQSW, CSS, BA, MA or Foreign qualification where certified by the Professional Social Work regulatory body
  • Ensuring current registration with the Professional Social Work regulatory body at all times
  • A commitment to on-going personal and professional development
  • To undergo appropriate training to achieve Assessed Year in Practice (ASYE)
  • Good keyboard / IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and PowerPoint
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
