Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to invite applications for a fixed term LED ST3-ST5 post in General Surgery until the 05th October 2027.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive General Surgery team and gain further experience across the specialty. The postholder will work as part of the surgical team, contributing to safe, effective management of general surgical patients across inpatient, outpatient and theatre settings.
The postholder will undertake the day to day clinical management of patients under the care of the General Surgery team and will participate in outpatient clinics and operating theatre lists under supervision of Consultant General Surgeons. The postholder participates in the 1 in 10 full shift rota, contributing to the provision of out of hours General Surgery cover. The role provides opportunities to develop clinical decision making, operative experience and wider surgical skills appropriate to the level of the post.
The postholder contributes to the effective day to day running of the department, including supporting and supervising more junior members of the medical team where appropriate and helping to ensure suitable clinical cover and deputising arrangements are in place.
The postholder is expected to undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and needs of the General Surgery service.
Main duties of the job
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management and care given of patients
- Day to day management of surgical patients under Consultant General Surgeon’s care
- To undertake theatre lists on surgical patients under the supervision of a Consultant General Surgeon
- To be part of the 1 in 10 week on-call rota
- Assisting with teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
