We are looking to recruit a Paediatric Clinical Trial Pharmacist

As the Lead Clinical Trials Pharmacist for paediatrics, the candidate will work with the CMG, the children’s research team & pharmacy trials team. The candidate will be expected to liaise with commercial companies, to ensure comprehensive trials support for new & ongoing studies

Candidates should have experience of working in clinical trials, clinically providing the care, in the logistics & set up. A working understanding of Good Clinical Practice is critical

The candidate will have experience of providing medicines care & pharmaceutical service to children

You should have several years post qualification experience & a post-graduate diploma & broad experience of paediatric pharmacy. The right candidate will be an innovative pharmacist who wants to develop both themselves & the pharmacy service

Both roles will require independent work, have great attention to detail, must possess excellent verbal, written communication skills & effective influencing & negotiating skills

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Principal Pharmacist for Clinical Trials in the provision & development of the clinical trials service ensuring that clinical trial procedures for studies involving Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) and related substances comply with all regulations
  • Conduct clinical & feasibility reviews of clinical trial protocols involving IMPs
  • Handle negotiations with sponsors & investigators concerning facilities, resources, capacity planning, and financial arrangements in clinical trial management
  • Act as the professional lead for all aspects of pharmaceutical input in line with legal requirements &Good Clinical Practice
  • Line manage pharmacy personnel as needed
  • Develop & implement local policies & guidelines for Women’s & Children’s Medicines
  • Professionally check, dispense, & perform final accuracy checks on clinical trial prescriptions per Trust standards
  • Maintain & develop expert clinical practice in the area of specialty.
  • Lead & develop the specialist clinical pharmacy service to the specialist area, ensuring the safe, clinical, &cost-effective use of medicines UHL in line with local & national standards and policies.
  • Deliver highly specialised pharmaceutical care to patients and support healthcare staff in meeting risk management, financial management, & clinical governance responsibilities related to medicine use

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Comply with all UHL policies and procedures including those relating specifically to pharmacy, in particular the Leicestershire Medicines Code
  • The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Code of Ethics for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians must be adhered to at all times.
  • Supporting the Chief Pharmacist in specific pharmacy management issues and projects and contribute to the overall organisation, administration and management of the Pharmacy department
  • Contributing to and/or conducting relevant clinical audits to facilitate Clinical Governance requirements
  • Undertaking and documenting continuing professional development.
  • Participating in rostered flexible shift working including evening, weekend and bank holiday arrangements in line with service commitments. Including dispensary work when required
  • Undertake on call duties as required by the needs of the service
  • Undertaking any other duties that may reasonably be required as agreed by senior staff.
