The Role
To initiate and contribute to service development at an expert level within the sphere of the speciality, including the planning and evaluation of programmes that will impact on ophthalmology acute services.
In this key role, you will:
- Provide a telephone triage by eliciting information to advise GP’s; Optometrists and A&E doctors on the management of ophthalmic emergencies and arranging appropriate appointments in the eye casualty clinics.
- Undertake initial assessment of patients
- Perform clinical interventions including: IV cannulation/venepuncture, Intravenous medication, Intravitreal injections of medication
- Evaluate the results of interventions using accepted outcome criteria; revising management and/or care accordingly and consulting and/or referring where required.
What You'll Bring:
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
- Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
- Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality.
- A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
