Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Dietitian to work as part of a team delivering specialist nutritional support to gastroenterology and critical care patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Specialist clinical skills, a professional attitude along with excellent communication and organisational skills are essential for this post.

You will be part of a small team of registered dietitians, dietetic assistants and secretarial support staff based at the QEH.

Gastroenterology and critical care nutrition support experience is essential, but there will be an opportunity for training and development following successful recruitment to the post.

This is a fixed term post until 1st April 2027.

Main duties of the job

  • Working with support of service lead to provide a dietetic service to patients on critical care
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient specialist dietetic support to patients with gastroenterology conditions.
  • Support wider acute dietetic team in management of nutrition support patients including those requiring artificial enteral nutrition support i.e. NG/NJ feeding.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Experience

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate a variety of dietetics experience within NHS
  • Experience of managing own caseload including the management of complex cases and able to support others in effectively managing their caseload
  • Experience of supervising and facilitating a supportive role with students on clinical placements and supervision of staff members

Desirable

  • Experience of line management

Skills, abilities and knowledge

Essential

  • Is able to use behaviour change/motivational interviewing/advanced communication skills to support implementation of dietetic treatment plans
  • Excellent communication skills and able to communicate effectively with various groups of people including service users and health care professionals, both as individuals and in a group setting. Able to utilise a range of resources to enhance communication if required, e.g. use of an interpreter, visual aids
  • Able to visit wards/units and outpatient clinical areas
  • Able to work autonomously but also demonstrate a good understanding of teamwork and how this can be used to improve patient care

Desirable

  • Completion of Behaviour Change Course for Dietitians

Qualifications/training and professional development

Essential

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or similar non-UK qualification
  • Dietitian registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Completion of advanced enteral feeding course, e.g. PENG

Desirable

  • Completion of Supervisory skills course
  • British Dietetic Association (BDA) membership
  • Membership of relevant BDA Specialist Interest Group
