Job overview
Are you looking to join a forward-looking Radiotherapy Physics team at a very exciting time of change and progress? Then here is your opportunity!
The department at NNUH currently operates under a Managed Services Contract (MSC), delivering a comprehensive service to the people of Norfolk. This contract runs until October 2027, when it will be succeeded by a new MSC that will underpin the next decade of service development, bringing investment in equipment, technology, and resources to support the future of radiotherapy provision.
Our current radiotherapy infrastructure includes five matched Varian TrueBeam linacs, with one scheduled to be replaced by a Halcyon in mid-2027. The department also benefits from two CTs, the Eclipse TPS, an orthovoltage unit, and a Bravos HDR afterloader. In addition, we are fully equipped for Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) using the complete VisionRT suite, with MapRT and DoseRT scheduled for installation in the coming months, further enhancing our advanced treatment capabilities.
Beyond the technology, what truly sets us apart is our people. We are a friendly, collaborative, and welcoming department with a strong culture of project work, and continuous development. Our team includes clinical scientists, engineers, mould room technicians, administrative professionals, and IT specialists.
The postholder will be expected to work shifts as part of an extended day working arrangement. Some weekend work may be required.
Main duties of the job
The main role of this post is to provide advanced clinical scientist level leadership within the Radiotherapy Physics section and to provide specialist scientific and managerial support to the work of the whole section at an advanced level.
The post holder will coordinate Radiotherapy Physics resources and ensure high quality support to the Radiotherapy service for patient treatments in their specified area(s), taking lead responsibility for safe operation of equipment and computer systems, including accurate calibration and functioning, appropriate quality assurance, and the provision of expert advice to ensure services are compliant with all relevant legislation, including the use of ionising radiation and any radioactive materials.
The post holder will lead and manage the work of other Radiotherapy Physics staff working in their area(s), including project management and active involvement in the commissioning of new equipment or specialist techniques, along with systems of work for effective and optimised service delivery. The post holder will provide support to other areas of Radiotherapy Physics when required.
To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.
