Job overview
The appointment is to commence ASAP for a fixed term period of 12 months. The role is full time, with a standard of 40 hours per week. There are no out of hours or weekend on call commitments.
MRCP is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are appropriate to an individual holding a Certificate of Completion of Training or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be part of a team of rheumatology clinicians, including consultants, resident doctors at various stages of training, and clinical nurse specialists who are responsible for providing outpatient services across 3 sites, inpatient care at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, and review of ward referrals across the STH sites. Clinical supervision will be provided by the consultant team, and the appointee will have a named clinical supervisor for the duration of the post.
The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment. To minimise travel between sites the job plan has been designed to ensure that wherever possible the successful candidate will be based at one site each day.

- MRCP or equivalent

- Rheumatology Specialist Clinical Exam

- Advanced qualifications in teaching or research
Research and Audit
Essential
- Ability to critically appraise research publications ands incorporate findings into clinical practice
- Experience and evidence of having participated in clinical audit, including implementation of audit outcomes
Desirable
- Publications in peer reviewed journals
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in Rheumatology
- Experience of working in outpatient clinics, seeing both new and follow up patients
- NHS Experience (excluding clinical attachments)
Desirable
- Ability to perform joint injections and aspirations including knee and shoulder
