Job overview
To provide first- and second-line support for the Trust's network infrastructure, including hands-on configuration and troubleshooting at site level and remote management of switches, routers and firewalls under the guidance of senior team members. The post holder will contribute to vulnerability management activity, event monitoring and day-to-day ticket resolution, developing their technical knowledge and experience as part of the wider Digital Infrastructure team.
Main duties of the job
- Travel between Trust sites as required to carry out hands-on installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware, including switches, cabling and wireless access points.
- Assist with the remote configuration, monitoring and management of switches, routers and firewalls, under supervision, following agreed change control procedures.
- Respond promptly and courteously to incidents and service requests logged through the IT Service Desk, managing own ticket queue and escalating complex issues to senior engineers as appropriate.
- Support the team's vulnerability management activity, including assisting with scanning, basic triage and tracking remediation of identified issues to closure.
- Assist with day-to-day event and alert monitoring across the network estate, identifying and escalating anomalies in line with agreed procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out, including updates to tickets, configuration notes and asset information, to support an auditable service.
- Work collaboratively with senior Network Engineers and wider Digital colleagues, building technical knowledge through on-the-job learning, shadowing and formal training.

- Follow Trust change control and ITIL-aligned processes, ensuring changes to the network are carried out safely and with appropriate approval.
- Adhere to Trust policies on information governance, data security and safe working practices, including lone working procedures when travelling between sites.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the band and role, as reasonably requested by line management, to support the effective delivery of the Digital Infrastructure service.
