This post is based in the Department of Urology within Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW). This post will be based at the Maidstone Hospital site, with a requirement for occasional cross site work.
This is a post at Junior Clinical Fellow level, ideal for doctors who have completed their foundation training and/or core training, or trust doctors with relevant clinical experience in urology, whether before applying for a formal urology training programme or as part of broader surgical training.
It is also well-suited for international trainees with prior clinical experience who wish to acquire NHS urology experience.

Main duties of the job
- Co-ordinate and support the daily emergency urology take, assessing and managing referrals in conjunction with the on-call Registrar and Consultant of the Week.
- Provide day-to-day ward care for emergency and post-operative urology patients, including post-take ward rounds, daily review of inpatients, and timely escalation of concerns.
- Provide clinical leadership and support to a team of four FY1 doctors, supervising their day-to-day clinical duties and providing day-to-day educational support.
- Work closely with the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) providing 24/7 out-of-hours cover, ensuring effective handover and continuity of care.
- Perform procedures appropriate to grade (e.g. catheterisation, bladder washouts, wound and drain management) under appropriate supervision.
- Attend and assist in outpatient clinics as timetabled. Typically 1-2 clinics per week.
- Assist in theatre for elective and emergency urological procedures.
- Take referrals from primary care and other specialties, with the support of the Registrar of the Week.
- Complete discharge notifications, summaries and clinic letters as directed.
- Engage with the Registrar of the Week / Consultant of the Week model, escalating appropriately and always ensuring clear communication.

- Excellent communicator, able to work in a close-knit team, supervise junior colleagues, and co-operate with all medical and multidisciplinary staff.
Experience
Essential
- 1 year full time SHO experience in the UK
- Experience of general surgery and/or urology, including emergency take and ward care of surgical patients
- Awareness of clinical governance with particular reference to emergency surgery and professional development (CPD)
Desirable
- Prior experience in urology
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Qualifications
Essential
- GMC Registration
- MBBS or equivalent
- Achieved competences equivalent to a trainee who has completed an NHS Foundation Training Programme
