About the units
- St Helier ICU: 13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care.
- Epsom HDU: 6-8 level 2 beds.
- Annual admissions: 1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery

Main duties of the job
Specialties and Collaboration:
We support all general specialties and admit patients from regional Renal, Haematology, and Oncology units. Our in-reach service helps our hospitals achieve the trust’s mission statement of ‘delivering outstanding care every day’. We are part of the South West London Adult Critical Care network (SWLACC).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Education: Accredited for FICM Stage 1, 2, and 3 training. We are developing CESR-training pathways in collaboration with St George’s Hospital. We aim to expand our echocardiogram and simulation training. The ICU team also provide education to other teams outside ICU and undergraduates from St George’s Hospital Medical School.
- Innovative environment: We provide a 7-day, 24h critical care outreach service in St Helier Hospital and aim to expand this to Epsom by Summer 2026.
- Supportive team: We provide an in-reach service to the Medicine department, while also collaborating with Anaesthetics, Surgery, Emergency, and Renal departments, and other regional ICUs.

Experience
Essential
- Minimum 2 year experience in Emergency medicine/General Medicine or one of branches/Anaesthesia/ Criti cal Care/Surgery in St1/2 level
- Provider in ATLS, APLS, ALS or similar
- No more than 6 months employment gap immediately before the application closing date
Desirable
- Instructor in ATLS, APLS, ALS or similar
Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full registration with GMC This is must have requirement for the post
Desirable
- Post graduate qualification
Teaching/Research/Clinical Governance
Essential
- Understanding of clinical governance and participation in audit
- Current successful appraisal/revalidation
Desirable
- Presentations at postgraduate meetings
