We are seeking Junior Clinical Fellows in Emergency Medicine to join our team here at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at the West Middlesex site. The West Middlesex site has a long history of pioneering, innovative healthcare.

Main duties of the job

The Accident & Emergency Department at the West Middlesex Hospital sees approximately 70,000 patients each year and offers excellent experience in a busy department. There is also an attached Urgent Care Centre which opened in March 2012.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main service commitments of the CESR doctors will be, under the supervision of the Consultants, to supervise the FY2s/CT1s and the junior clinical fellows, while maintaining a 'hands on' approach with patients.  Out of hours you will be expected to run the shop floor and manage the department.

The department has initiated new patterns of working to achieve the current targets and integral within these are the ‘resus lead’ and ‘rapid assessment team’ which are roles which will be undertaken by the CESR doctors within the department. The CESR doctors would also be expected to help run the daily review clinic. The Consultants are very committed to teaching and post-graduate training and will ensure appropriate opportunities for professional development.

The rota is a full shift pattern providing 24 hour cover to the Emergency Department with 1:5 weekends.  The shift pattern is new deal compliant with a 1A banding.

Essential

  • Experience in delivering and organising teaching

Desirable

  • Formal teaching courses / qualifications

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrable A&E and previous NHS experience
  • Understanding of Clinical Audit

Desirable

  • Previous work at Middle Grade level in ED.
  • Peer review medical publications

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Provider status in at least one of ALS/ATLS/PALS

Desirable

  • MCEM
  • Instructor in at least one of ALS/ATLS/APLS/PALS
