This is a 12-month post within the Paediatric Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgical service at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a specialist tertiary referral centre treating paediatric patients with plastic surgical problems from across the West Midlands and beyond. This post of a Fellow is equivalent to FY2 grade and although a non-training post is intended to allow the doctor to obtain and develop experience in Paediatric Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery over the year in the holistic management of patients especially children.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow will work closely with specialist registrars under the supervision of the consultants. The Fellow will have responsibility for the patients on the ward. The fellow will support the on-call middle grade rota as well as the hospital at night rota. They will be expected to participate in the multi-disciplinary team meetings as well as clinics and theatre sessions. The Fellow will have ample opportunity and will be expected to lead on and participate in audits as well as research projects, presentations (local, national and international), publications in peer-reviewed journals and service improvement projects.

Essential
- Full GMC registration
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK
QUALIFICATIONS & CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Medical Degree from a recognised University
- A minimum of 2 years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time basis) or equivalent experience and competencies.
- Evidence of progress in Plastic Surgery Training or equivalent Programme to successful completion of the programme, or having passed exit examination in Plastic Surgery at the time of taking up the post, or equivalent
- Previous experience in Hand Surgery
