Trust Grade Doctor CT1/2 Level - ENT, Plastics and Maxillofacial Rotational Post

Main Duties

All posts have a service element and the following covers the majority of duties. There will be minor variations in different hospitals but the list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:

  • Supervise, monitor and assist the House Officer (F1) in the day-to-day management of in-patients in posts with an attached F1.
  • Liaise between nurses, Doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
  • Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled
  • Take part in rostered emergency work.
  • Attendance of theatre and clinics as directed by clinical supervisor
  • Dictate discharge summaries.
  • Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
  • Teach medical students as directed.
  • Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.
  • Attend induction in each hospital or new department
  • Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave

Trust Grade Doctor (Core Level) – Surgical Specialities

Looking for a challenge? Applications are invited to take up a new and exciting 12 month rotational post compromising of 4 months each in ENT, Max Fax and Plastics.

Trust Grade doctors at this Trust will be entitled to take study leave and allocated funding for training and study.

These posts allow successful candidates to develop their clinical skills and experience in a hospital with a track record of innovative service delivery, excellence in training and clinical research. The University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest and busiest teaching trusts in England employing over 11,000 members of staff, providing services to nearly a million people across Leicestershire and Rutland with all three hospitals delivering an acute general hospital service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Terms and Conditions of Service

In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) practitioners shall:

  • Be expected in the normal run of their duties, and within their contract and job description, to cover for occasional, brief absence of colleagues as far as it is practicable.
  • Provide cover for annual study leave of colleagues, providing always that the resulting increase in duties is reasonable in the circumstances.
  • In addition, they will be prepared to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances without additional remuneration. Commitments arising under these provisions are, however, exceptional and practitioners should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
  • In circumstances other than those in 1. to 3. above, e.g., where cover is required for a practitioner on maternity leave or for a temporarily vacant post, the employing authority (not the practitioner) shall be responsible for the engagement of a locum tenens to undertake work which in their view must be carried out, but the practitioner shall have the responsibility of bringing the need to their notice. The employing authority shall assess the number of hours required.
  • Arrangements for engaging locums wherever practicable, should be made in advance of needs.
