Infection Prevention Assistant/ Mask Fit Tester (37.5 hrs per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mask Fit Tester to join a dynamic and innovative Infection Prevention team to deliver a mask fit-testing testing service across the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

Fit testing is required to be carried out to ensure that respiratory protection/FFP3 masks fit staff effectively.

The successful candidate will have excellent inter-personal skills as well as confidence to deliver training to individual and small groups of staff. You will be required to work as part of a friendly and supportive team of Infection Prevention staff to help deliver the organisational infection prevention strategy. You will work closely with front-line clinical colleagues in all disciplines to establish optimal working relationships.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for fit testing to ensure masks that are either disposable or re-useable fit the face of an individual and also play a key role in educating staff on the best practice of ‘donning’ and ‘doffing’ Respiratory Protective Equipment, and the maintenance of respiratory hoods.

The post holder will assist in organising sessions, setting up the environment and equipment in the allocated room in preparation for testing. Where required, the post holder will need to advise on alternatives for respiratory protection where fit testing is unsuccessful and update training records accordingly.

The post holder is required to understand the different methods of fit testing both, previous Mask fit experience is not essential as the individual will be given full training and supported to further their knowledge and development in this clinical field.

In addition, the post holder will be required to undertake a variety of ad hoc IP audits and deliver specific IP Training to their ability.

The successful person will work five days per week, covering a 7 days service at both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital site.
