The London Ambulance Service is currently recruiting an Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner to join their pro-active Infection Control Team.
The IPC Practitioner supports implementation of the Trust’s commitment to provide safe, effective and efficient care to patients and ensure the well-being of its staff by delivering a comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control service.
Main duties of the job
The candidate for this post will have experience within an Infection Prevention & Control setting and a desire to progress their training within this field. This role aids to ensure the annual work programme is delivered through a robust auditing, escalation and assurance process. They will inspire and motivate others and, act as a role model and a professional source of advice for staff and external colleagues when required.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key responsibilities include;
- Assist with sustaining the IPC audit plan; verifying and analysing outcomes for escalation and/or improvement.
- Be a role model for infection prevention and control practice, ensuring that both Trust policy and CQC compliance standards are upheld.
- Provide reports regarding specific areas of responsibility and contribute to the annual report.
- Identify, report and escalate IPC risks as well as updating and reviewing incidents on Datix.
- Contribute to developing training packages and communications, to be pitched to a variety of audiences both internal and external.

- Experience of working in health care in any setting relevant to the role
- Experience in policy development and procedures
- Experience of developing, conducting, analysing and reporting trends from IPC audits; taking action as appropriate
- Experience of producing training materials and information leaflets
- Strategic thinking

- Experience of working with an IPC team
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Current understanding of research, and application of evidence based practice
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Able to undertake audits, report writing and sharing results at relevant groups or committees
- Effective time management; able to manage own workload
- Timely completion of task and accurate record keeping
- Familiar with using Datix, or similar risk management system A/I
- Effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels within the Trust and with external partners
- Effective use of change management skills and risk management
- Car driver with full driving licence; alternative means of transport across sites
- Ability to challenge practice using evidence based practice
Desirable
- Have an understanding of the NHS and IPC strategies and their impact on the Trust
- Database development and management
Qualifications, Accreditations, Education
Essential
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) degree module or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years working as a registered nurse, paramedic, or allied healthcare professional
- Teaching qualification and experience of teaching
Desirable
- Other healthcare qualifications such as an advanced specialist healthcare qualification and healthcare experience
