Job overview

We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to support our Improvement and Innovation Team, helping to deliver consistent, sustainable improvements across Mental Health services.

This role has been specifically designed to support the delivery of the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCFT) Continuous Improvement System, with a particular focus on improving patient flow across Mental Health services, including both community pathways and inpatient wards.

You will support the Improvement and Innovation Team to drive consistent and sustainable improvements that enable safe, timely and effective progression of service users through Mental Health pathways — from referral and assessment, through to admission, treatment, discharge and follow-up. This includes reducing delays, unwarranted variation, and avoidable length of stay, and strengthening transitions between services.

A central part of the role is embedding and modelling a strong Culture of Care, promoting compassion, dignity, psychological safety and therapeutic relationships in all improvement activity. You will help staff apply Lean methodology, based on the Virginia Mason Production System, to redesign processes, remove waste and create environments where service users receive high‑quality, person‑centred care.

If you are driven to improve systems, support staff and enhance the experience of people using Mental Health services, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Some key responsibilities will include: • Working collaboratively with Mental Health inpatient and community teams to identify issues affecting flow, including delays, bottlenecks and inconsistent working practices.  • Supporting teams to improve flow through activities such as:  • Reducing delays at triage, assessment or admission  • Strengthening discharge planning and community follow‑up  • Improving MDT coordination and communication  • Reducing avoidable length of stay and variation across wards  • Helping teams test, implement and embed new standards of work that support smoother, safer transitions between services.  • Actively promoting and supporting a Culture of Care, ensuring improvement work enhances compassionate practice, dignity, relational working and the overall therapeutic environment.  • Supporting staff to adopt behaviours associated with compassionate leadership, including kindness, listening, psychological safety and openness.  • Ensuring patient and carer voice informs all improvement work through co‑production and genuine engagement.  • Reinforcing Trust values in daily improvement activities, modelling high‑quality interpersonal behaviours.

Regrettably, if the role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Trust’s eligibility criteria, the Trust are unable to extend your employment beyond the expiration of your current visa. The Trust is not responsible or liable for ensuring that your employment continues after this period.
