We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Imaging Department Assistant (IDA) to join our MRI Team in the Imaging directorate at Royal Preston Hospital.

There will be many tasks for the appointed IDA to be involved with in this post.  Interviewing and preparing patients for scans, cannulation, stock ordering and maintaining good levels across all our sites and generally assisting the running of MRI lists.

The post will also involve assisting the Specialist Radiographers in the 4 MRI scanners we have here at Preston and there may be a need for assistance to be required at our Healthport site where we run the CDC MRI scanner.

Main duties of the job

You should hold an NVQ level 2 in Health care ( or equivalent) and be prepared to study for the INCS Level 3 qualification within 18 months of appointment.

You will also be expected to complete the Clinical skills Care Certificate as part of your induction unless already completed.

You will be expected to be flexible in your attitude to work as there may be a requirement to work out of hours, at weekends and Bank holidays.

You will work closely with the Lead and Specialist Radiographers,  and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide support with stock and support to patients having scans and general anaesthetics/sedation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include, but not be limited to:

  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards
  • Undertake stock duties to ensure that the department has the correct stock levels for  MRI across all of our sites.
  • Undertake duties relevant to the clinical area following achievement of competencies
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, confirming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive environments, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager
  • Maintain and develop own competence
  • Process information according to local and national requirements

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Aware of the concept and application of confidentiality
  • Able to demonstrate Health & Safety awareness
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of a band 3 assistant.
  • Knowledge & Understanding of Medical terminology
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
  • Experience of working with the public and customer care skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in an acute healthcare setting
  • Understanding of imaging procedures
  • Evidence of working at Band 2/3 in a caring environment
  • Knowledge of MRI terminology, treatments and interventions
  • Previous experience working in a Radiology setting

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • GCSE in English and Mathematics – grade C/4 or above OR Level 2 Functional Literacy & Level 2 numeracy skills
  • NVQ Level 2 Care or Equivalent (to work towards level 3 within 18 months of start date)

Desirable

  • Basic IT skills
  • NVQ Level 3 in care.
  • Care Certificate
  • Evidence of Continued Personal Development & Self reflection
