The main remit of the post holder will be to support the imaging cardiology service within the Cardiorespiratory CBU to provide and further develop Cardiology services. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general in-patient and out-patient workload of the team whilst having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. The post is based at Croydon University Hospital (10 PA) but may involve tertiary centre commitment in the future.

It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to quality improvement and delivery of inpatient, outpatient and emergency work; there will be SPA time is allocated to achieve this. They will provide a strong visible presence across the organisation, be a role model of good leadership and effective communication at individual, team, directorate and whole organisation level.

Main duties of the job

To lead the Cardiology Imaging service. Essential requirements for the post include:

Competency and full current accreditation in transthoracic echo (BSE or equivalent),

Extensive experience in complex echocardiography, particularly stress echocardiography and trans-oesophageal echo (TOE).

The successful applicant will also possess sub-specialist expertise in either Coronary CT, Cardiac MRI or management of valvular disease, and contribute to service delivery in one of these fields accordingly.

To provide a General Adult Cardiology and sub-specialist Cardiac Imaging service; this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department and the patient flow across the Directorate.

To participate in a 1:10 rota as the Duty Cardiologist of the week in CUH. The Duty Cardiologist will perform daily morning rounds on the CCU and Cardiac zone/ward and provide outreach cardiology consultations (as required) to ITU, A&E, AMU and other wards. The Duty Cardiologist is also on-call for cardiac emergencies for the hospital 24 hours a day for the week on call. There are no on call commitments associated with KCH for this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• All clinical staff holds responsibility for ensuring they have sound knowledge of standard infection control precautions and that no omission on their part or within the sphere of their responsibility is detrimental to the interests or safety of their patients, visitors and colleagues. Clinical staff must keep their infection control knowledge and skills up to date by attending the Trust’s mandatory infection control training, a record of which will be kept and information provided to line managers as required.
• To comply with the Trust’s Safe Guarding Children and Vulnerable Adults policies, procedures and protocols. All individual members of staff (paid or unpaid) have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults This will require you to:
