Applicants are invited for three  ITU Clinical Fellow post (CT1/ CT2 level or CT3+) as part of the Anaesthetic and Critical Care Department.  Four  full time posts for a period of 12 months Starting from August 2026.

Main duties of the job

The intensive care unit provides high quality care for 22 level 3 and level 2 beds. The Fellow would be expected to spend his clinical service commitment in the Intensive care unit and an additional 1 in 8 on-call commitment with internal cover In ITU (EWTD compliant shift system). If the Fellow has anaesthetic experience and would like to improve anaesthetic experience, we will try to incorporate theatre sessions as well.

There is daily clinical teaching on the ward rounds and once weekly intensive care teaching held on the unit, organised and supervised by the Consultants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Title: Clinical Fellow in ITU ( CT1/CT2 or CT3+)

Post: three Full time post for a period of 12 months starting in August 2026.

Hours: 40 (including 1:8 on call commitments in either critical care unit or theatres commensurate with experience).

Department: Anaesthetics & critical care

Reports To: Anaesthetic   lead and divisional lead

Accountable To: Anaesthesia divisional lead

GENERAL

The remit of the postholder will be to support the departments of Anaesthesia and ITU in day to day activities. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department.

This is a post in critical care medicine. Duties will be undertaken under the supervision of the critical care consultants. If the post holder has anaesthetic experience, we will be able to accommodate sessions in anaesthesia. The post help to improve the CV for the application for anaesthesia and critical care training.

The Critical Care Unit consists of Fifteen beds, 8 level three and 7 level 2, used flexibly. It provides full critical care facilities for adult patients. There is an outreach service as well. The on call commitment will be EWTD compliant rota of 12 hour shifts. 8 trainees share the duty rota for critical care, with one person on duty at nights and weekends, and two or three on weekdays. Duties will include all aspects of care of the patients in the critical care unit, and on occasions assistance with the stabilisation and transfer of new patients referred from other areas of the hospital.

The post holder will be actively encouraged to take exams and attend/ contribute to in house teaching.
