To help to meet the growing demand within the Gastroenterology service an opportunity has arisen for two Clinical Research Fellows to be appointed to both meet the service needs and undertake a supervised research project in IBD.

The successful candidates are expected to register for a higher degree with Imperial College and  encouraged to apply for local and national research funding early in their research experience in order to support and enhance financing of their project. The part-time clinical activity, offers an excellent opportunity to gain further specialist clinical experience while out of programme. The clinical activities include Specialist IBD and Gastroenterology clinics and endoscopy lists (potentially on any of the Trust's sites meet the service needs and undertake a supervised research project in IBD.

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that 5 service delivery sessions per week will be worked.

The remaining time gives the post-holder the opportunity to undertake research at St Mark’s Hospital, for a trainee wishing to obtain a higher degree. Various projects are available, under the supervision of the gastroenterology consultants at St Mark’s.

Essential

  • Evidence of academic activity

Desirable

  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Training in research methodology

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of teaching and training more junior staff

Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of specialisation in Gastroenterology at ST3 grade or above
  • Experience in Endoscopy

Desirable

  • Independent Endoscopist

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS
  • MRCP or equivalent

  • Ability to communicate with clarity in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/negotiate
  • Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
  • Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patient and ability to work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • Understanding of audit
