We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and compassionate IBD Specialist Nurse to join our expanding team in the Gastroenterology department. As an IBD Specialist Nurse, you will provide expert care for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. The role offers an excellent opportunity for a nurse with proven experience in a gastroenterology specialist nurse role looking to advance their clinical knowledge and skills as a senior IBD clinical nurse specialist. The post holder would support the development of nurse led clinics, provide specialist prescribing support and expand and support the CNS team service.

Main duties of the job

1. To assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for a defined IBD patient caseload, be accountable for professional actions, and to work on own initiative.

2. To work as a specialist, autonomous practitioner and use expert clinical decision making skills.

3. To provide nurse-led clinics according to service requirements

4. To follow existing guidelines/policies for assessment and delivery of care, and develop, with the team, new guidelines/policies as required.

5. To ensure effective communication is maintained both written and verbally, regarding patients, through close liaison with professional colleagues, both in primary and secondary care, and to develop working relationships with consultants, general practitioners and other support services.

7. To ensure that all requirements for continuing professional development are met and to keep abreast of new advances in the field of IBD and gastroenterology.

8. Attend wards/departments/community clinics/OP clinics to work closely with the MDT to carry out consultations and treatments.

9. Promote and develop the specialist advisory and supportive role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in IBD  demonstrating specialist and advanced clinical skills and knowledge base supported by post registration education and qualification.

10. To undertake advanced roles such as undertaking biologics counselling and safe prescribing of IBD specific medications with full support and training from senior staff.
