Due to current Home Office Guidelines, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is unable to provide sponsorship for this role.

The Housekeeper plays a vital role in supporting high‑quality patient care by maintaining a clean, safe and well‑organised ward environment.

We are looking for someone passionate about patient care, enthusiastic and proactive, able to use their initiative and work effectively within a multi‑professional team.

You should be reliable, organised, detail‑focused and committed to maintaining a positive, safe and respectful ward environment where patient dignity and confidentiality are always upheld.

This post is based across both Ward 6 and Ward 9, with three days worked on Ward 6 and two days on Ward 9 each week.

Main duties of the job

The role involves maintaining high cleaning standards across the wards, including routine and spot cleaning, monitoring overall cleanliness, and ensuring both general and specialist equipment are cleaned according to policy. It also requires strong ward organisation by keeping all areas tidy, removing clutter, restocking storage spaces, and maintaining notice boards and non‑clinical areas to ensure the environment remains safe at all times.

Responsibilities include effective stock organisation, stock rotation, and timely ordering supplies to minimise waste and maintain availability. Catering support is provided by assisting the ward hostess and nursing staff during mealtimes. Equipment management duties involve logging defective items, arranging repairs, carrying out minor maintenance, and ensuring all equipment is safely stored and fully functional.

The role also covers correct disposal of clinical and domestic waste and linen, accurate record keeping for cleaning, repairs, audits, and equipment tracking, and offering respectful patient support while maintaining confidentiality and dignity.

Adherence to Trust health and safety procedures, infection‑prevention standards, and incident reporting is essential, alongside active teamwork through liaison with senior staff, participation in ward meetings, and contributing to service improvements. Ongoing training and development are key components of the position.
