Job overview
Hospital Volunteer
We welcome Volunteers to Croydon Health Services as a way of involving local people in the day-to-day running of our services. Offering them the opportunity to contribute to patient care in ways which may not be available through the conventional NHS. There are many rewards, from meeting new people through to being able to enjoy the experience of giving. Many visitors/patients to the hospital are vulnerable and in need of assistance in many different ways. Being able to show consideration, empathy and kindness for others, may bring balance, perspective and fulfillment to your own life.
Volunteering at Croydon Health Services is a fantastic way to support your local hospital and we have lots of different opportunities for volunteers to get involved (No experience is necessary). All our roles are non-clinical, but most are patient-facing and all focus on improving patient experience by supporting our patients, their families and staff. Whether you want to volunteer at Croydon University Hospital, Purley War Memorial Hospital or at one of our community sites, everyone can make a difference by becoming part of the CHS volunteer community.
We recognise the valuable life experiences, skills and qualities that volunteers bring to the roles they support. Our volunteers complement the work of our paid staff and our vision is to be the best place to volunteer; growing our volunteer team and continuing to represent the diversity of the communities we support. Some people even benefit from learning new skills, which can be added to their CV, which can help people who are looking to return to work. Evidence for future employers of regular volunteering experience for six months or more can be helpful to those returning to work after a long gap.
Main duties of the job
- Wayfinders – meeting and greeting visitors
- Ward support
- Basic Administrative tasks
- Various Ad-hoc roles
Before submitting your application, please ensure that you are available to attend all of the dates listed above. Attendance at every session is mandatory, as these sessions are a required part of the hospital’s volunteer onboarding process.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer alternative dates or individual catch-up sessions. The information covered is essential and forms a legal requirement for completing your volunteer application.
If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled sessions, we kindly ask that you wait and apply for a future intake when you are available. Please note that if you do not attend all sessions, your application will be withdrawn.
