The RNOH PNI UNIT is recognised as a leading UK tertiary centre for the treatment of complex peripheral nerve injuries for all age groups including brachial plexus injuries in both infants and adults (in both the upper and lower limb). Some patients are seen and treated as emergencies as a result of acute trauma, and others are referred because of chronic problems (e.g. Nerve compressions including TOS) sometimes these can be associated with previous injury. The unit also deals with nerve tumours in the upper and lower limbs.
The AHP team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and a CNS working across two sites. Bolsover therapy team treat outpatients and run parallel drop-in clinics alongside the consultants on a Tuesday morning. Stanmore upper limb therapy team care for both outpatients and patients who are attending for a one-week inpatient rehabilitation stay. This post will be primarily based at Bolsover Street- carrying an outpatient case load - but occasionally the post holder may have to work at the Stanmore site to help to cover clinics, rehab patients and attend teaching and training sessions.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Physiotherapist to join our team. In this role, you will be accountable for all aspects of patient care, conducting specialised PNI assessments and treatments, and developing individualised care plans for complex conditions. You will communicate effectively with diverse patients, provide clinical expertise to other therapists, and lead changes in clinical practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Clinical Excellence: Conduct specialised PNI assessments and treatments, develop and reassess care plans, and ensure high standards of clinical practice.
- Patient Engagement: Encourage patients and carers to regain and maintain independence.
- Leadership: Lead changes in clinical practices, initiate multidisciplinary meetings, and manage team appraisals.
- Service Development: Participate in policy development, monitor service standards, deliver training, and propose service delivery improvements.
- General Duties: Ensure equipment safety, handle distressed patients, and adhere to policies.
