We are excited to announce the launch of recruitment to support the development of our new Experts at Hand team, enabling the local delivery of the national SEND reforms.

The Experts at Hand initiative, from the Department for Education, brings speech and language therapists (SLTs) and occupational therapists (OTs) directly into mainstream schools and colleges to provide early Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support

We are inviting applicants who are interested in joining our team to work with children and young people within early years and mainstream schools with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) focusing on early identification and early years and school-based interventions to accelerate progress and enhance parent carer support.

As part of a team, you will be responsible for the delivery of SLT in line with the Experts at Hand guidance. As well as the responsibilities listed in the JD the roles will focus on supporting mainstream education settings to deliver effective universal, targeted and targeted + interventions for CYP with SLCN, for example through Whole-setting support, Consultative advice, Workforce development, Group interventions and Earlier intervention. [gov.uk] Supporting the continued shift toward preventative support by delivering inclusive whole setting approaches that build staff confidence and capability through to more targeted support for children and young people with emerging needs to help prevent escalation.

Main duties of the job

• To deliver care and support at a highly specialist level.
• To develop your knowledge, skills and clinical networks in your chosen specialist area responding to available evidence and being involved in audit, service improvement and research.
• To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to form an accurate profile of strengths, difficulties and needs, diagnoses and prognoses in a wide range of complex conditions.
• To develop care plans in partnership with children and young people, parents and others in children's lives.
• Where needed to undertake comprehensive autonomous speech, language and communication assessment for children and young people, including those with complex presentations, using investigative and analytical skills.

There may also be opportunities to work in the core SLT service to strengthen your clinical experience and maintain/extend your wider clinical skills and current areas of speciality.

You will join a team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists who work collaboratively and are committed to delivering NHS values and providing compassionate support to children and young people, parents, and one another.
