We are seeking to recruit a CAMHS ADHD Nurse Prescriber with excellent clinical skills and a strong interest in working with neurodivergent children and their families.

This is a 24-month fixed term post, within the Lewisham CAMHS ADHD treatment team, to provide leadership and management support to the ADHD medication review team to ensure access and flow are prioritised while maintaining own caseload.

The post holder will support in leading a highly specialist service for children and young people with ADHD, with co-occurring neurodivergence and/or mental health difficulties. The post holder will be expected to contribute to specialist assessments and treatment plans. The role involves co-ordinating medication clinics and includes undertaking non-medical prescribing.

Alongside this, the post holder will be expected to use their expertise to offer advice and consultation to other members of the team as well as offering training in assessments and interventions to the wider Lewisham CAMHS service, and other professional networks.

Main duties of the job

To provide leadership and management support to the ADHD medication review team to ensure access and flow are prioritised while maintaining own caseload. To manage a caseload, providing the analysis of complex information to determine the planning and management of assessment and treatment to C&YP with ADHD and co-occurring neurodiverse/mental health difficulties. To undertake assessments, including ADHD assessments. To provide psychoeducation information sessions/groups. To provide expertise in this highly specialist clinical area and to offer advice and consultation on clients care to other members of the service. To offer training in assessment and interventions for CYP with ADHD to CAMHS and other professional networks. To liaise with medical colleagues, partner agencies and adult mental health professionals across a range of settings. To work autonomously within professional practice guidelines and Trust guidelines. To contribute to policy and service development, undertake research, service evaluation and audit for own team and to contribute to the training of the clinical team and others. To work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical

To lead the provision and delivery of the ADHD clinics provided by Lewisham CAMHS, and be a highly specialist practitioner within the assessment, treatment, and pharmacological management of CYP with ADHD and co-morbid mental health and/or neurodiverse difficulties, assuming responsibility for own caseload. To work as an independent and autonomous professional within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work. To coordinate ADHD medication review and titration clinics in conjunction with the medical staff and other non-medical prescribers. To work as a non-medical prescriber (working in line with the Trust Medication Prescribing Policy), undertaking ADHD medication initiations and reviews In collaboration with the client/carer to update care and treatment plans. Monitoring and assessing patients’ physical health needs within their sphere of competence and provide interventions for these needs. Offer support to parents/carers and clients seeking help between clinic appointments or when in crisis with support from team. Liaison with schools in relation to children and adolescents progress at school and response to medication To Facilitate ADHD psychoeducation workshops for parents/carers and young people. To support the development of a Nurse-led ADHD medication clinic. To provide CAMHS assessments, using self-report measures, as appropriate, structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate this highly complex data to identify and diagnose the cause of emotional and behavioural problems in C&YP. To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans in conjunction with the C&YP, parents/carers and other services as appropriate. To formulate mental healthcare and crisis treatment plans that are specific to each C&YP and family, based upon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes contributing to the presentation. To assess safeguarding issues for each case, consulting with other professionals and referring concerns to the appropriate safeguarding team as required. To deliver evidence-based treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options. To communicate skilfully, sensitively highly complex, sensitive and potentially distressing information with CYP, parents, carers and colleagues taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry and recording. To ensure that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to the diverse communities which make up the catchment area of the service. To act as named worker/care co-ordinator for a range of cases including high risk and extremely complex, ensuring the provision of a care package appropriate for the client needs, coordinating the work of others involved, and to monitor progress in the course of multidisciplinary interventions.

Professional leadership

To provide strategic nursing input at senior level across Lewisham CAMHS, supporting the Lead Nurse, Matrons, Service manager & Lead Clinician. To liaise with Lead Nurse to ensuring standards of nursing are consistent.

Supervision, Teaching and Training

To receive regular clinical and management supervision from a clinician according to Trust guidelines. This will include fortnightly moving to monthly ADHD prescribing supervision with a consultant psychiatrist. To provide clinical supervision as well as managerial supervision to qualified nursing staff and students for all aspects of their work where appropriate. To provide placements to student as required and where appropriate. To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to staff and parents/carers within CAMHS and other agencies Supporting ADHD multidisciplinary complex clinic.

Management, Recruitment, Policy, and Service Development

To provide Leadership and management support to the ADHD team to ensure access and flow are prioritised while maintaining own caseload. To facilitate ADHD pathway development, working closely with the senior leadership team and key staff to support further development of the ADHD pathways and ensuring better access and reduce waiting times. To promote clinical excellence by complying with nationally agreed, Trust and statutory policies and clinical guidance, while maintaining own clinical competencies in this role. To identify any aspects of the service which need to be improved and to advise service and professional managers on appropriate changes. To assist in the short-listing and interviewing of multidisciplinary staff as required. To participate in clinical governance initiatives as agreed by the Trust and clinical governance committee. To deputise for senior managers when required and to represent the team at borough and SLAM level when needed To undertake Serious Incident investigations as required by the Directorate.

Research and service evaluation

To contribute to the development of services for Lewisham CAMHS through initiating and undertaking service evaluation and audit. To undertake computer-based literature reviews and carry out research relevant to the service in general and provide advice and supervision to other staff undertaking these. To contribute to the development of outcome measurement and participate in the implementation of the use of same. To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through service feedback, presentations, and published articles. To participate in agreed audit projects and to participate in service improvement based on the findings.

General

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice with children and families, and of relevant legislation and policies. To examine independently and critically all aspects of work to ensure they comply with recognised professional standards and Trust policies and procedures. To maintain record keeping as required by professional codes of practice as well as Directorate policies and procedures. To participate fully and implement standards devised from Trust's clinical and research governance activity.
