Applications are invited for a full time substantive position  for a Band 8b Practitioner Psychologist within the tier 3 Specialist High Risk Eating Disorders (SHED) service. The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention for adults with severe and high‑risk eating disorders, delivered in clinic, the community and virtually.

Working as part of the SHED multidisciplinary team, comprising specialist nurses, allied health professionals including occupational therapist,  dietitians, psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapist and a CAAP,  the role also involves close collaboration with wider Eating Disorder and Adult Mental Health services to ensure integrated and safe care pathways.

SHED provides intensive, person‑centred intervention for adults with complex eating disorders associated with significant medical or psychiatric risk. The service aims to reduce risk, support recovery and enhance quality of life through evidence‑based approaches.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist wishing to work with people with eating disorders, complex mental health, and multidisciplinary leadership. The role includes direct clinical work, consultation, supervision and involvement in service development within an innovative specialist team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence‑based intervention, in line with NICE and Matrics Cymru recommendations for eating disorders and complex mental health needs. Interventions may include approaches such as CBT‑E, DBT, trauma‑informed therapies, CFT, ACT and systemic or consultation-focused work tailored to the needs of this high‑risk group.

A key aspect of the role will involve providing consultation, joint working, and clinical supervision to colleagues within the SHED multidisciplinary team to support psychologically informed, safe and recovery‑focused care. The post holder will also contribute to reflective practice and to supporting staff wellbeing, given the demanding and high‑risk context of the team’s work.

The role will include supporting senior colleagues with service development, clinical governance activity, risk management processes, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care for individuals with severe and high‑risk eating disorders. The post holder will be professionally accountable to Head of Adult Psychology and will have access to ongoing clinical and professional supervision from senior psychologists within the Adult Mental Health Directorate.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
