Job summary
Our cutting-edge Echo department is supported by multiple Consultants who continue to expand our service provision and drive forward a programme of clinical and service innovation, efficient service delivery and the outstanding patient care. With a new echo fleet with the highest specification next-generation equipment; 3D echo is a routine aspect of our clinical practice, enabling us to develop and deliver service directly to out-patients, wards, ICU, structural labs and operating theatres.
For the band 7 post, you would be expected to hold a TTE accreditation and all the relevant skills for echocardiographic imaging in both physiologist and consultant-led settings; effectively managing a team of junior physiologists; conducting high quality and clinically relevant research/audit; teaching and training of internal and external echo trainees.
Role attracts 10% R&R (S.T) on initial employment which rises to 12.5% R&R (S.T.) at 3 years
Main duties of the job
The main objective of this position is for the post holder to become a key and dynamic member of the Cardiac Physiology Echocardiography Team. The post holder will use their expertise and knowledge to provide technical/scientific expertise in echocardiography. The main activity of the post holder is to perform advanced TTE in accordance with BSE guidelines and department standards/protocols and to provide a comprehensive report for each study. They will also perform the role of highly specialised physiologist within transoesophageal and stress echo teams, including interpretation. As well as being a part of the echo catheter lab team during TOE/TTE guided structural heart interventions (ASD/PFO/LAA /PVL closures, EP procedures and TAVI) and work towards performing agitated saline studies/contrast studies. This will be underpinned by the post holder ensuring that personal knowledge is current, reflecting change in clinical echocardiography.
The post holder will be designated supervision and mentoring of junior colleagues within the department and will be responsible for contributing to the development of policies. They will also participate, as required, in clinical and non-clinical audit projects aimed at improving patient care and the effective and efficient delivery of service. Additionally, they will review, maintain and develop agreed standards of documentation in accordance with BSE guidelines and department minimum standards, in liaison with peer physiologist.

Essential
- *Previous experience of working in an echo department as a band 6 (or above) cardiac physiologist.
- *Knowledge of echo complications and ability to troubleshoot these issues
- *Report echo's to a high standard and to BSE guidelines
- *Have a confident expert knowledge of the physiology of the heart.
- *The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team ensuring high quality care
- *Maintains the quality in own work and encourages others to do the same
- *Leadership skills/qualification
- *Excellent Communication Skills
- *Excellent IT skills, computer literacy to a high level
Desirable
- *Experience with Philips and ISCV reporting stations
- *Previous experience of supervising staff
- *Experience with more complex echo procedures such as stress, TOE, ACHD
- *Experience of teaching individuals and lecturing to groups
Qualifications
Essential
- *BSc clinical science or equivalent, or HNC MPPM or equivalent
- *Accreditation from BSE in echocardiography (TTE) or working towards
Desirable
- *ILS
- *MSc Cardiac Science
- *Registered with RCCP or registration with the AHCS as a Cardiac Scientist.
