Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join the Cardiology team and develop their knowledge and skills.  We are recruiting a registrar with an interest in acute cardiovascular medicine. This post will be based at Glenfield Hospital, which delivers a Cardio-respiratory take of approximately 60-80 patients per day. The post-holder will work alongside other higher specialist training doctors (ST4+ level) in the Cardiology department at Glenfield Hospital.

The post holder may contribute to the provision of the outpatient service for general cardiology. There will also be responsibility for covering patients admitted to the Cardiology wards with support from the supervising consultant.

Whilst this is not a recognised training post, there are excellent opportunities for learning and professional development.  Clinical experience, including in the catheter lab, and attendance at a range of education meetings will be encouraged.  Development of skills such as echocardiography and point of care ultrasound will be supported.  Audit and service development projects are actively encouraged, and publication of case reports or research will be supported.

The post will be available for an initial period of 12 months, with a possibility of an extension of contract, commencing with immediate effect. Full GMC registration with a licence to practice is required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will look after patients with a variety of general and specialist Cardiology conditions offering excellent exposure for those individuals considering a career in Cardiology or a hospital based medical speciality. This post is an ideal stepping-stone to higher specialist training in Cardiology – we have an excellent track record of previous registrars successfully obtaining a national training number.

Basic salary in line with ST3+ payscale and in addition you will also receive allowances for working on the out of hours on-call rota. All Locally Employed Doctors at UHL will be entitled to take study leave and allocated funding for training and study.

This post will allow successful candidates to develop their clinical skills and experience in a hospital with a track record of innovative service delivery, excellence in training and clinical research. The University Hospitals of Leicester is one of the largest and busiest teaching trusts in England employing over 16,000 members of staff, providing services to 1 million people across Leicestershire and Rutland with all three hospitals delivering an acute general hospital service
