Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportnity for Health Care Support Worker. There is opportnity for applicants to work in a variety of clinical settings across the organisation in both part time and full time positions. We can also offer opportunity for successful candidates to work on the Nurse Bank.
As a Healthcare Support Worker you will be working closely with individuals, providing care to enable them to complete activities of daily living with support of the Multi-Disciplinary Team of Nurses, Occupational Therapists, psychologists, Social Workers and Doctors. Within the role you will be required to:
- Undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties
- Record patient observations and changes to patient clinical conditions
- Engage with a variety of digital systems that promote accurate recording of a patients clinical condition.
Main duties of the job
Each individual has different needs however the list below outlines just some of the practical duties that the post holder will undertake, support and enable people to/with:
- Using appropriate assessment tools under supervision to assist the registered practitioner in assessment of the patients’ health and wellbeing needs.
- Initiate emergency action when required e.g cardiac arrest, fire
- Identify/contribute to their own goals to improve their quality of life
- Participate in clinical skills as trained in line with role e.g recording ECG’s
- Contribute to their own care/support/recovery plans
- Support individuals to express their needs and wishes
- Promote their personal hygiene and physical health.
- Actively engage in health promotion
- Engage in meaningful and enjoyable activity
- To support individuals with external activities/appointments under indirect supervision
- May have responsibility for patient monies/valuables which need to be handled within GHFT guidelines
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living encouraging active participation and independence
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Communicates information to staff, patients, relatives and carers.
- Communicates information in an empathetic and reassuring way where there may be barriers to communication/understanding i.e. speech/language/hearing difficulties.
- Communicates with patients, clients, relatives and staff whose first language may not be English. Is able to communicate effectively using written and oral skills.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues.Provide and receive routine information requiring tact or persuasive skills; barriers to understanding.
- To assist the nursing staff in providing nursing, clerical support hotel type services within the ward area.
- To assist nursing staff in providing support for carers.
