We are recruiting full and part-time substantive HCA posts across the Trust including outpatients, surgical and medical inpatient wards as well as paediatric wards and departments.

The Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) are recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistants (Band 3) to fill several posts across our dynamic service.

Main duties of the job
- Contributes to the work of the department by working under direct or indirect supervision of registered practitioners or assistant practitioners.
- Will carry out delegated, repetitive, routine, and familiar tasks.
- Will in time develop an awareness of normal parameters concerning patient / client wellbeing and report that which is out with normal parameters to the registered professional.
- Will plan and prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities.
- Will carry out routine elements of assessment to enhance the patient / client journey, following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner.
- Meet basic care needs of patients, washing dressing, assistance with feeding etc.

We require you to bring your qualification certificates, photographic identification and provide a portfolio of evidence of your skills and experience on the day of your interview. An overview or reflection of your experience working in a healthcare setting. Essential Requirements
GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Level 1 Functional/Key Skills) please ensure you document this in your application in the qualification section, you will need to bring your certificates on the interview day.
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent direct care experience in a recognised healthcare environment, please ensure you document your qualifications and your experience in your application, you will need to bring your certificates on the interview day and evidence your experience through your portfolio.
Please note you will need to provide your qualifications/portfolio of evidence of your skills and experience on the day of your interview.
- Experience of caring in a health care setting
- Ability to meet basic care needs of patients, washing, dressing and assistance with feeding etc.
- Ability to communicate with members of the public and health care providers.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision, as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of confidentiality.
- Alignment to trust values and core behaviours.
- Must be flexible to meet the needs of the service and be able to work a full variety of shifts including days and nights.
- Basic IT skills
All successful candidates will be given support before working in the clinical area, by taking part in our mandatory Healthcare Academy programme, if you are new to the Trust.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a face to face interview on Tuesday 21 July 2026 at Regent Point, Gosforth.
