
Job summary
Colchester Medical Practice is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on afull time basis or part time will be considered, minimum hours 28 per week. The role is based at our Shrub End Surgery branch.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately.
- Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
- Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Update patient health records.
- Ensure that medical supplies are in stock.
- Act as a chaperone where required.
- Assist GP during the performance of minor operations.
- Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education.
- New patient health checks.

Experience
Essential
- Experience of working within a GP practice.
- Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy.
- Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
Qualifications
Essential
- Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC;
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent;
