Job overview

We are currently looking to recruit 12  Healthcare Assistants to work within the Peripatetic Team. You will be expected to work across all the inpatient wards within Derbyshire with both working age and older adults.  We have three sites which include Kingsway campus, Radbourne Unit and the Derwent Unit.

We are looking for individuals who are motivated and dedicated to work alongside multiple teams to contribute to the continued development of services through MDT teamwork.

Please be mindful that the wards provides a 24 hour, year round inpatient service so you would need to be able to work shift patterns including, morning, afternoon, nights, weekends, Christmas, New Year and Bank Holidays. You will also be expected to travel between sites as you will be allocated to wards with the highest clinical demands. You will have an opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across different services and sites.

These fixed term post may also enable you to become permanent on one of the inpatient wards.

Main duties of the job

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT) has an exciting fixed term opportunity for enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced Band 3 Healthcare Assistants, to work within the dynamic Mental Health inpatient services for both adults of working age and older adults.

You will be expected to deliver high standards of person centred care showing empathy, patience and understanding at all times.

In this role you will be actively involved in delivering direct patient care under the supervision of qualified nurses and other members of the team.

As someone who will spend all your time caring and supporting people on the wards, you will be responsible for reporting to registered staff the care you deliver during your shift.

To be trained to Level III NVQ in Health/Social Care (or equivalent qualification).

Experience

Essential

  • Proven ability to form therapeutic relationships
  • Previous experience of working with Adults/Older Adults with mental health needs

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with people with behaviour that challenges

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Be able to work on own initiative, being aware of own limitations
  • Demonstrate an understanding of person-centred care
  • Demonstrate an understanding of patients' & carers' perspectives

Desirable

  • Knowledge and skills related to individuals with a learning disability
  • Knowledge and skills related to individuals who use substances

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ L3 in Health and Social Care or relevant field or Care Certificate issued by an organisation based on the standards set by Health Education England, Skills for Care and Skills for Health or equivalent NHS experience to the work area
  • Able to communicate fluently both verbally and in written English
