Job summary

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work as part of a skilled, person-centred clinical team supporting individuals with significant emotional, behavioural, and relational needs. This role is both challenging and highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the recovery and stability of our patients.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Job Provide high-quality, compassionate care and assistance with daily living activities (e.g., personal care, nutrition, hygiene). Provide enhanced support to patients as directed by the Nurse in Charge Build therapeutic, trust-based relationships with patients who have experienced significant trauma. Work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to implement and review patient care plans. Use de-escalation and safe physical intervention techniques where required to maintain safety. Escort and support patients during appointments, community access, and therapeutic activities. Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation (e.g., vital signs, food and fluid charts, incident reports). Promote infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety standards across the ward. Contribute to structured therapeutic programmes and group activities. Always uphold professional boundaries, patient dignity, and confidentiality.

Queensway Hospital is a Mental Health service in association with the Ellern Mede Group We provide individualised, person-centred care for our patients. Our multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborates with patients, families, and professionals to enhance mental health and wellbeing. Care is delivered across the spacious Elizabeth Ward, with Elizabeth Lower downstairs and Elizabeth Upper upstairs. We Offer In our service, we collaborate with commissioning teams to keep admissions as brief as possible, based on each patient's bespoke care plan. Our goal is to support recovery and reintegration into the community by offering choice and developing trust with all our partners. We work closely with community teams to reduce hospital stays and help prevent future admissions - this is central to our mission. We offer a wide range of support, including:

You will receive full induction and ongoing training in autism-informed care, trauma-informed approaches, Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression, and other essential skills to ensure you can deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.
