Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job are:

  • Support the delivery of person-centred care under the supervision of registered and non registered nursing staff.
  • Assist patients with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, meals).
  • Help with non-clinical duties in a ward or department.
  • Ensure patient safety, dignity, and wellbeing at all times.

Some of the core tasks required for the role include:

  • Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
  • To act as an advocate for patients within the department/ward/unit.
  • To follow FHFT guidelines, policies, and procedures in maintaining safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
  • To ensure that patients' receive high quality communication and a good experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs, or principles.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience which includes team working, communicating with staff and colleagues, and understanding of work practices

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a health care environment
  • Experience of dealing with the public

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of general education, eg GCSE's or equivalent functional skills Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy
  • Willingness to work towards and complete the Healthcare Support Worker level 2 apprenticeship

Desirable

  • Knowledge of personal care and related procedures
  • Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Basic numeracy and literacy
  • Ability to follow clear instructions and feedback from staff
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Knowledge of how to respect individuality and diversity of patients, their carers, and your colleagues
