Healthcare Support Worker – Endocrinology
Are you compassionate, reliable, and keen to make a real difference to patients’ lives? We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Support Worker to join our friendly Endocrinology team, supporting patients with a wide range of long‑term and specialist conditions.
Working under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high‑quality, person‑centred care. You’ll support patients with their day‑to‑day needs, assist with routine clinical tasks once assessed as competent, and help ensure the ward/department runs smoothly.
You will work closely with nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, contributing to a supportive and collaborative environment that puts patients first. Flexibility is important, as you may be required to rotate to other clinical areas in line with service needs.

Main duties and responsibilities: • To assist in providing patient care in accordance with the individual care plan and the wishes/choice of the patient in accordance with instructions and training received, reporting any changes in condition promptly to the registered nurse. • Contribute to the management of patients/ family members/carers who are upset or angry. • Record care given in the p tient’ records and ensure that those entries are signed by the registered nurse. • Recognise emergency situations and initiate an appropriate and timely response. • Support the registered nurse in implementing an agreed plan of care in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received • Assist in the topical care of patients in accordance with instructions and training received. • Assist patients with their activities of living whenever necessary i.e.hygiene needs, mobility, toileting, dressing or undressing, feeding.

Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients, their relatives and friends. • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with nursing and clerical colleagues, medical staff and professions allied to medicine. • Behave at all times in a professional manner, upholding the right of patients to maintain their dignity, privacy and confidentiality. • Under direction, to undertake additional duties when trained and competent as f ollows : (example ) acc utely record patient’ vital sign , e g temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate. Recognise and report abnormalities. Transport blood and blood products to/from central store. Measure capillary blood sugars, record and report results • Ensure that patient confidentiality is respected at all times, including verbal and written information. • Contribute to patient assessments, making sure that any information provided by the patient which is relevant to their care is handed on to the Registered Nurse. • Provide support and reassurance to patients and others at times of loss or distress, ensuring that the Registered Nurse in charge is aware of anycommunication that has taken place. • Help to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, reporting any hazards, which might endanger others to the Nurse in charge and/or where applicable take appropriate action to remove these.

- You’ll need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing in English. You don’t need any formal qualifications in maths but you will need to have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations. You’ll need to understand what these mean as you’ll be documenting the results in patient notes and communicating to your team.

- You may also have previous experience in healthcare and have your Care Certificate if not, we will support you to achieve this qualification within the first three months of joining us.
