An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our highly committed team.
Please ensure you are currently or have previously worked in a GP practice in this role to fit the essential criteria.
The current role is for 25 - 30 hours per week, please note the hours will be set to support business needs.
The candidate needs to have the ability to work independently as well as being a good team player and be passionate about general practice.
The Health Care Assistant will work to support the wider nursing and GP teams.
The successful applicant should :
- Have experience of working as an Health Care Assistant in a GP practice.
- Be fully trained in venepuncture.
- Be caring, conscientious and have excellent communication skills
- Be an enthusiastic learner and adaptable to changes in the role.
- Be a good team player and ideally have experience in the general practice Health care assistant role and have experience of using clinical SystmOne.
Main duties of the job
Main duties if the job
- NHS Health Checks and new patient checks
- ECG recording
- Phlebotomy
- Urinalysis and specimen processing
- Chaperoning duties
- Blood pressure Recording
- B12, Flu, pneumococcal, shingles and covid vaccinations
- Diabetes checks including foot checks
- Pre- diabetes and diet/lifestyle advice
- Hypertension reviews
- Fridge checks
- Debif and emergency equipment checks
- QOF work
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before during and after patient care interventions , including assisting GPs during minor op surgery.
- Any other duty required to support the practice within this role.

Job responsibilities
To assist the clinical team in the service and delivery of care to the practice population. The post holder will work under the supervision of the senior nurse undertaking tasks and duties delegated by the clinical team.
They will need to work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, ensuring that practice policies and procedures are followed.
Flexibility is paramount to cover GP extended access including early mornings, evenings and Saturdays on a rota basis. There will be an expectation to commit to additional hours during Flu season to support the practice flu campaign.
A driving licence and access to your own vehicle to use as and when required is desirable.
The applicant will be subject to the enhanced disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and barring service (formerly known as CRB check) for any previous convictions.
