Applications are invited for a part time Locum GP Acute interface role with an interest in Headche.
This is a one-year locum post in the first instance with a possibility to extend annually, subject to approvals by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Oxford.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
The post-holder will provide a weekly clinic within the Oxford Community Headache Clinic, assessing and managing adults referred with primary and secondary headache disorders. The role is designed to deliver high-quality, community-based headache care closer to home, improving access, reducing waiting times and easing demand on secondary-care neurology services.
Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary headache team and under the clinical supervision of a Consultant Neurologist, the post-holder will manage a defined caseload of headache patients, contributing to diagnosis, treatment optimisation, review and onward referral.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical activity
- Deliver one headache clinic session per week within the Oxford Community Headache Clinic.
- Provide a mixed model of consultations, approximately three telephone (remote) clinics to every one face-to-face (in-person) clinic (3:1 ratio), in line with service design and patient need.
- Assess, diagnose and manage adults referred with primary headache disorders (e.g. migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache and other trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias) and medication-overuse headache.
- Recognise and appropriately triage patients with features suggestive of secondary headache or 'red flag' symptoms, escalating to the supervising Consultant Neurologist and arranging timely investigation or referral as required.
- Initiate, titrate and review acute and preventive headache treatments, including lifestyle advice, oral preventives and, where the service permits and competencies are held, specialist therapies (e.g. greater occipital nerve blocks, referral for CGRP-targeted therapies or botulinum toxin).
- Order and interpret appropriate investigations within agreed protocols and act on results.

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
