An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and highly skilled part time, 15 hours a week Higher Level Medical Secretary to join our dedicated Head & Neck Secretariat team at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a pivotal role within a small, supportive team of Medical Secretaries. Providing high-level secretarial support to Consultants within the Head & Neck Cancer department, managing complex clinical correspondence using sensitive medical terminology via audio transcription. Organising and prioritising a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. Communicating effectively with multidisciplinary teams across all levels upholding the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

You should possess: 4 GCSEs (grades 9–4 or C–A) or equivalent, RSA Stage 3 typing and word processing skills (or equivalent experience), proficiency in Microsoft Office applications,  a qualification or active progress toward NVQ Level 3 in Business/Medical Administration or AMSPAR

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for producing accurate clinical and general correspondence, frequently transcribing complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio dictation. In addition to administrative duties, you will handle telephone enquiries from patients who may be anxious or distressed, demonstrating empathy and professionalism while managing contentious and sensitive situations with discretion. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a busy Medical Secretaries office. It is ideally suited to a motivated individual seeking to develop their skills and progress within a dynamic healthcare environment.
