Are you a passionate Hand Therapist looking for the opportunity to develop your career in a regional Plastic Surgery Service? Would you like to work as part of a committed and innovative multi-disciplinary team who strive for excellence in the rehabilitation of patients with hand injuries and conditions.

Salisbury Plastic Surgery Hand Therapy team is seeking a motivated, skilled professional to join our team on a permanent full time (1.0 WTE) contract basis. We seek an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to work within our integrated OT/ PT Hand Therapy team to provide conservative and post operative care to a range of patients (adults and children) following trauma and acquired conditions.

The Hand Therapy team at Salisbury District Hospital has a diverse caseload, working closely with our plastic surgery hand surgeons, to see a wide variety of trauma and elective cases through both hand trauma and post operative clinics. The team also receive regional referrals for specialist clinics including Congenital Hand, Plastics Scar Management, Tendon Transfer and Spasticity and Military Clinics. There are regular Hand therapy Team and MDT meetings, as well as teaching. The Hand therapists are also actively involved in clinical audits and research.

Main duties of the job

With the guidance of senior clinicians in Hand Therapy you will form part of an innovative and supportive hand therapy team to provide post operative and conservative hand therapy care to both adults and children in our range of regional specialist clinics.

You will work to the highest standards to facilitate evidence-informed patient care. Support will be provided for training and clinical development over this period, to ensure hand therapy best practice in line with local and national guidelines.

Essential and Desirable

Essential

  • HCPC Registration as OT or PT
  • BSc Hons PT or OT degree
  • Post graduate evidence of hand therapy experience/ training
  • Post graduate experience in the assessment and treatment of acute hand conditions in an NHS setting.
  • Experience of working and communicating effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children and their families
  • Experience splinting the hand and upper limb
  • Experience of managing patients with highly complex physical and mental health needs
  • Experience of audit and other service evaluation activities
  • Experience of supervision of others
