Job summary
Put medical education at the heart of your working week
Are you a GP with a passion for teaching who would like education to be the main focus of your role?
This is an exciting opportunity to join WellBN in an education-led post, with the substantial majority of your working week dedicated to supervising, teaching and supporting medical students rather than routine clinical sessions.
The role is particularly suited to a GP with an interest or background in medical education who enjoys helping students develop their clinical reasoning, consultation skills and understanding of patient-centred care.
If you would like to make teaching and student development the main focus of your working week, while retaining a smaller clinical commitment, we would love to hear from you.
There is an option to convert to a substantive post. Job-share applications are welcome.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments during recruitment.
For an informal conversation or to express your interest, please contact Susan King at susan.king72@nhs.net.
Main duties of the job
You will oversee Year 4 and Year 6 medical students during their placements, helping them connect their learning with the realities of modern general practice. Through supervision, case discussion, feedback and teaching, you will support their development as confident, thoughtful and compassionate future doctors.
The post comprises seven sessions dedicated to educational supervision, alongside one or two clinical sessions per week. We welcome job-share applications from GPs interested in sharing the educational and clinical responsibilities.
During student placements, the emphasis will be on education: overseeing the students learning, reviewing clinical cases with them, discussing their assessments and management plans, and providing constructive feedback.
Between student placements, clinical cross-cover is expected to support the wider practice team.
