Job overview

The Gestational Trophoblastic Disease and Rare Gynaecological Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team supports patients diagnosed with Pregnancy related cancers and Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer within Imperial College.

Previous experience of this tumour type is not essential due to its rare nature. You will be supported in your learning and have the opportunity to gain expert experience and enhanced knowledge, working alongside the multi-disciplinary team. You will provide support, education and specialist advice to patients, carers and health professionals on a range of issues relating to these rare diseases.

Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) deliver personalised care using holistic needs assessment (HNA) to meet changing needs.

Cancer CNSs make sure that people affected by cancer have access to the range of cancer resources and services available, receive appropriately timed information and support and have access to a specialist cancer nurse throughout their entire cancer journey from diagnosis, through treatment to Living with and Beyond Cancer or end of life care.

Cancer CNSs actively engage with the cancer management team, the wider trust, RM Partners cancer alliance and other stakeholders as appropriate to continuously raise the profile of cancer nursing, promote patient centred services, contribute to cancer care within their speciality and ensure high quality cancer care.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as autonomous practitioners providing specialist nursing advice, care and support, facilitating high quality, individualised care to patients and those important to them
  • To be aware of their own limitations and recognise the parameters of scope of practice of themselves and other’s.
  • To provide support to inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets and initiatives.
  • To promote a culture that delivers patient centred care throughout the pathway, contributing to improved patient experience.
  • To act as a professional role model, providing expert direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, research and leadership. They require knowledge, skills and behaviours across all four pillars of advancing practice.
