The North East Thames Regional Genetics Service is seeking two Registered Genetic Counsellors to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. We are recruiting to one Permanent Band 7 post and one Fixed-term Band 7 post for 12 months.

About Our Service: The North East Thames Regional Genetics Service is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital and provides specialist genetic and genomic services to a highly diverse population, encompassing a wide range of cultural, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, of approximately 5.5 million people across London and the surrounding region. This diversity presents both unique opportunities and challenges in genomic healthcare delivery, and we value professionals who are committed to delivering inclusive and equitable care.

Our experienced genetic counselling team works across cancer, rare disease and prenatal genetics, delivering care through both virtual and face-to-face clinics. We have a strong culture of collaboration, innovation, learning and professional development and are actively involved in research, education, service improvement and workforce development.

We are proud of our commitment to training the future genetics workforce and support Genetic Counselling trainees, Scientist Training Programme (STP) trainees and pre-registration Genetic Counsellors. We are committed to helping our staff develop their skills and areas of specialist expertise throughout their careers.

Main duties of the job

• Provide expert genetic counselling for individuals and families referred to the service across cancer, rare disease and prenatal genetics.
• Support patients through complex decision-making processes, including diagnostic testing, predictive testing, carrier screening and reproductive planning.
• Work closely with the wider genetic counselling team, clinical geneticists, laboratory scientists, administrative colleagues and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
• Contribute to service development, audit, research and education initiatives within the department.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings and regional collaborations.
• Support the training and development of future members of the genomic workforce.

To be appointed at Band 7, you will:

• Be a Registered Genetic Counsellor with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or a recognised overseas registration body with a reciprocity agreement in place with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Advisory Board (GCRAB)
• Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and counselling skills
• Have an interest in, and preferably experience of, rare disease and/or prenatal genetics
• Be able to work independently whilst contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrate a proactive, innovative and progressive approach to the continual improvement of the genetics service
